The Crown SASS (Stereo Ambient Sampling System),
modified to accomodate a crossed pair of Sennheiser MKH20 omni capsule electret microphones

A birdsong' eye view of the SASS - from the front, with windscreen on.

Rear, showing cross-over of Sennheiser MKH20 microphones

Wind protection removed, showing foam baffle between microphone capsules

From above, showing micophone and front face angles

Microphone capsules align flush with face plate, thus utilising the barrier effect,
a physical phenomenon which results in around 3Db of extra gain.

Ready for travel - SASS stored in Loewpro Commercial AW bag,
along with the Sound Devices 722 hard disc recorder,
mic cables, extra batteries for 722, and a small pair of binoculars.
Headphones can be stowed by wrapping them around with the mic cables.
