Welcome to our second newsletter.

"Three months of nature sound recording in India - that sounds like a nice holiday!" Um, no, not really. A mixture of cultural overload, chronic uncertainty, jaw-dropping beauty, incomprehensable problems, heart-warming human interactions and the occasional life-threatening situation.

In this issue of our newsletter, you can read the first part of our India Diary. Come with Sarah and I as we journey deep into the jungles of Maharastra, and find out what a week of field work with us in India is really like! When you listen to the albums we will be publishing later this year, you may have some idea of what went into obtaining the recordings and images.

After our return from India in January, we were feeling in need of a REAL holiday. So we've recently spent a fortnight on the island of Bali in Indonesia, floating over coral reefs and testing out an underwater housing for our camera. Our favourite spot was Menjangan Island, which has the reputation of being the best dive location in Bali. For us it was spectacular. While it doesn't have much to do with nature sounds, we've picked some of our favourite images for you to put on your computer desktop.

This month we have several complimentary nature soundscapes, including the haunting calls of Grey-headed Fish Eagles. You'll find the others linked among our feature article.

Our plans for an online download shop are progressing, but the technical coding is a bit of a learning curve! We hope to have it up by our next newsletter.

Lastly, many thanks to those of you who wrote encouragingly of our first newsletter. We're glad you are enjoying our offerings. Once again, all feedback is welcome and if you have any suggestions, we'd welcome hearing them.

Best wishes, Sarah and Andrew

Rockhopper Penguin near Cape Otway

Remember 'Lovelace' from the recent film 'Happy Feet'? He's a Rockhopper Penguin, but in the wild, the population of Rockhoppers is crashing. Which makes our recent encounter with a juvenile Penguin on the Victorian coast both remarkable and poignant. Some photos here...

Grey-headed Fish Eagles at Nagzira

The haunting calls of Grey-headed Fish Eagles echo over a lake at dawn in Nagzira Nature Reserve. (Other sounds to download linked from within our feature article.)
