The Muezzin and the Nightingale by Listening Earth
Leaving our village pension at 5am for our morning recording location, we were treated to unusual duet.
The village we have been staying in is high in the Taurus Mountains of Turkey, and has numerous Nightingales roosting in the dense shrubs found in gardens. In the pre-dawn darkness, they could be heard singing across the hillside.

On this occasion, another voice joined in. The muezzin began singing the traditional call to prayer, the Adhan, from the village mosque.
This recording was captured spontaneously on our iPhone. You can hear the last stanza of the call to prayer, followed by a pause before the microphone is turned off, while the Nightingale continues singing.
Established in 1993 by nature sound recordist Andrew Skeoch and photographer Sarah Koschak, Listening Earth offers a range of beautiful nature sound recordings from around the world.
"Our albums feature only the sounds of nature as you would hear in the wild - no music or other distractions. Recorded in often remote and pristine locations, they bring you the relaxing and beautiful sounds of our living planet. Listen, and let our recordings take you there."
