A Bushland Welcome to the Listening Earth Blog
Feb 24th, 2008 by andrew skeoch
Whether you are a regular customer, newsletter subscriber, friend, or have just found us by a happy accident of surfing – we welcome you, one and all. We hope you enjoy this blog.
Before you read any further, subscribe to our RSS feed (‘posts’, orange icon, top right) so our latest posts will be readily accessible. (If you’re unfamiliar with what an RSS feed is, try reading here. Note that some browsers (Firefox, Safari..) allow you to subscribe to RSS feeds just by bookmarking as normal. If you need or prefer to use an independent RSS reader, this video explains the process)
If you know us, you probably have an idea of what we intend to create here. We want to keep the main focus on nature by providing free sounds for you to enjoy. From our library of recordings we will be selecting material, some published and some not, to bring a little nature to you regularly. So plug in your headphones (‘cos you know that’s the best way of listen to nature recordings) and let us take you out into some beautiful wild environments, even if only for a few minutes.
Plus we’ll have our photography; images of wildlife, birds, natural landscapes, and the human cultures we’ve encountered during our journeys. We’ll be taking the opportunity to highlight what you can hear on our existing albums, as well as posting news about our latest releases.
Inevitably, our blog will be about us to an extent; our personal experiences and news. When we’re away doing field work (and have net access), we’ll be posting our field trip updates. We may even need to rant occasionally!
But this forum is equally about you! Please use the comments buttons at the bottom of posts to say hello and offer your thoughts and suggestions. Connecting with people of like mind is very important to all of us. We can create online content, but only together can we create a community.

Where do we begin? Firstly, we have archived many articles from our previous newsletters, so if you haven’t read them yet, you can by clicking the ‘archive’ tab link at the top of this page.
This coming week, each day we will be posting a 5-part series, taking you on a journey to Satkosia forest in Orissa, India, as we tell you how we recorded our recent album ‘Indian Jungle Dawn’.
Meanwhile, here is a recording of a morning in the bushland at our home property. Welcoming you to this blog are not one but two robin species, a scarlet (silvery descending call, in the background, repeated) and eastern yellow (loud ‘chew chew’ repeated), plus crinia frogs, weebills, striated thornbills, blue wrens, corellas and the occasional bush fly. (The photos above are of the bush that morning, and one of our friendly scarlet robins)
Enjoy!
