I bought your 'Favourite Australian Birdsongs' album yesterday, and today 'Sulawesi' - and I wanted to tell you how much I love what you are doing (and the photographs are so beautiful)!

I have an office at home - we have a screeching, crazy cockatoo owned by neighbours on one side, and a handyman has moved in behind our place and grinds iron out in his back yard - so the irritation levels of sound have got in the way of my work. I can't listen to music with words because I find the lyrics distracting.

At last I have found a solution - your nature recordings. I have my own dreamy place to work with wonderful sounds. Thank you for saving my sanity!

When I discovered your CDs it was like a homecoming. I’d arrived somewhere I wanted to stay for a long time. It was a sonic landscape I wanted to inhabit and explore.

I think that your recordings show an acute musical sensibility, as much due to your editing as to the master musicians; the birds themselves.

Birdsong in its natural environment was, after all, a major inspiration in the music of Olivier Messiaen (a long time favourite composer of mine). The Crested Bellbirds from "Spirit of the Outback" would leave Steve Reich gasping, and I love the Cobbler Frogs from "Uluru". But what really hits me in the solar plexus is the otherworldly beauty of the Pied Butcherbird and its distant echoing companion at the beginning and end of "Spirit of the Outback".

Your recordings are not 'new age' - I do not get on with new age music mixed with nature sounds –ugh! Generally the new age noodling that goes on over natural sounds is obtrusive, if not totally pointless.

Anyway, thanks again for these CDs, which have given so much enrichment to my life; so beautifully packaged with those gorgeous photos of Sarah’s, and the wonderful depth and clarity of Andrew’s sound recordings.

Best wishes to you both and long may your work continue,

Neil, UK
